Imtiaz Ali is a foodie and loves to try the local delicacies of all the places that he visits. Not only this, but he loves to make people try them too. During the shoots of his films, when he travels to different places, he makes sure that his cast and crew taste the famous food of the city or town. When he was shooting for the Sajid Nadiadwala production Highway, he did the same with both Alia Bhatt and Randeep Hooda, who play the lead couple in the film. Aki Narula, the stylist of the film, was also subjected to Imtiaz’s love.
Highway is a road film which was shot in six different states across North India. The movie began its journey in Delhi and ended it in Kashmir. It was also shot in Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. All these states are very famous for their local cuisines and this was a treat for the director of this film which is being presented by Sajid Nadiadwala, under his banner Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment Pvt Ltd, along with UTV Motion Pictures. Randeep Hooda, who is playing the role of Mahaveer, said that he really enjoyed travelling across North India. He said that he had never tried the specific delicacies that his director made him try, even though he has lived in north India most of his life, as he is not much of a foodie. He was born and raised in Haryana and he also lived a few years in Delhi.
Alia and Randeep were recently in Kolkata along with Imtiaz to promote their film Highway. The director made his lead actors try the mouthwatering sweets of Kolkata, namely Sandesh and Rasgulla. He also ordered a full Bengali thali for his team which included loochi (the Bengali name for poori), rice, daal, sabzi and mishti doi (sweet curd). The food of Kolkata ranks no.1 in Imtiaz’s list and he recommends Balaram Mullick’s baked rosogolla and notun gurer shondesh for the sweet lovers, Aminia’s biryani and pasinda, and pastries and patties from Flurys. This Sajid Nadiadwala production will release on the 21st of February 2014.
