If you know that director Imtiaz Ali has turned producer for the first time with his upcoming road venture Highway, then you might also know that it is the last time as well. Having directed several films earlier, Imtiaz is now comfortable in his much developed and successful career. He does not want to go beyond writing stories and directing movies. However, Highway has been written, directed as well as produced by him. He has producer Sajid Nadiadwala by his side, who was partially responsible for inspiring Imtiaz to take up film production for Highway. The ace film maker is presenting the movie worldwide in association with UTV Motion Pictures. Actors Randeep Hooda and Alia Bhatt are playing the lead roles in the film. While Alia will be seen as a city slicker, Randeep will play her abductor. Sajid chose to present Highway and let Imtiaz produce this project, which is close to the director’s heart. The story has been with him for 15 years now.
Talking about why he wanted to produce Highway and also why it will be his first and last production, Imtiaz Ali said, “I am still not interested in producing films but it was important for ‘Highway’. If there was any other producer, I would not have been able to take this much of risk. But, all this was in my head, I did exactly the same things that I had done in other movies except that after every 15 days, I would sign cheques.” This decision made by Imtiaz to produce the movie was respected by the presenter Sajid Nadiadwala and he has been by Imtiaz’s side throughout the making of Highway, though not physically. This road film has been shot across six different states of north India, which are very breathtaking and the audience might also appreciate the locales.
This Sajid Nadiadwala presentation Highway is slated to release on 21st February this year!
